A small-time betting agent, Marty O'Connor, and his girlfriend, Cora, are in trouble; Marty's a witness to a murder committed by a gangster who's never been successfully prosecuted. Marty's in hiding underground, and he and Cora seek Templar's help. Simon Templar devises a plan to let the gangster know that he's no longer the sure thing.
